Truck & Prime Mover Panel & Paint Repairs
A truck panel isn’t just bigger than a car panel — it sits on a chassis that has to hold its geometry within tolerance, carries reflective markings and signage that are part of its roadworthy compliance, and belongs to a vehicle that a transport operator needs back on the road, not in a queue behind cars. Most smash repairers treat a truck as an oversized car job. We built Max Smash Repairs the other way around: heavy vehicle repair is what our Smithfield workshop is actually configured for.
That shows up in the details — laser chassis and axle alignment equipment rated for truck geometry rather than passenger car track widths, with steering geometry resetting as part of the same process, a paint bay tall and long enough for a prime mover cab without cramming it in sideways, and a team that knows a jackknife impact behaves differently to a straight rear-end hit.
What We Do
Cab and Body Panel Repairs
Cab corners, doors, steps and side panels repaired to factory standard — a cab-over prime mover takes impact differently to a bonneted truck, and we assess each on its own structure.
Bull Bar, Grille & Front-End Assemblies
Front-end impacts are one of the most common truck jobs we see — bull bars, grilles, headlight assemblies and mudguards repaired and refitted to manufacturer mounting points.
Chassis and Rail Straightening
Laser chassis and axle alignment equipment built for heavy vehicle geometry let us properly measure and correct rail deflection, with steering geometry resetting as part of the same process.
Full and Partial Repaints
PPG-authorised colour matching means a repainted cab panel blends into the rest of the truck and the rest of the fleet.
Sheet Metal Fabrication
Where a panel is beyond repair, or a part for an older or imported model isn’t readily available, we fabricate a replacement in-house.
Glass, Lighting and Signage Reinstatement
Windscreens, lighting and reflective safety markings refitted as part of the same job — a truck isn’t roadworthy again until these are back to spec too.
Tail Lift & Hydraulic Repairs
Tail lift platforms, hoses and hydraulic rams repaired and tested after collision damage or breakdown.
Roadworthy & Compliance
Structural repair work on a truck chassis isn’t just cosmetic — a straightened rail needs to sit within the tolerances a roadworthy inspection checks, and reflective markings damaged in a collision are part of a heavy vehicle’s compliance, not just its appearance. We repair with that end point in mind from the first assessment.
If your truck needs a roadworthy certificate as part of returning to service after structural repair, we can advise on what’s involved and work with you and your inspection station as part of the job.
Our Repair Process
Assessment
we inspect the cab, chassis and running gear, check for rail deflection, and liaise with your insurer where relevant.
Quote
an itemised quote covering panel, chassis and paint work separately.
Repair
chassis alignment and structural correction first, then panel and paint work.
Quality Check
chassis geometry re-measured, lighting and safety markings confirmed present and correct.
Handover
truck returned or delivered back, genuinely ready for service.
Equipment We Use
Laser chassis and axle alignment equipment capable of correcting rail deflection to heavy vehicle tolerances, including steering geometry resetting; a pressurised paint baking oven sized for a full prime mover cab; PPG-authorised colour matching; hydraulic test equipment for tail lift repairs; and infrared smart-repair lamps.
Why Max Smash Repairs
Chassis Work Most Shops Can’t Do
Rail straightening and structural correction using laser alignment equipment built for heavy vehicle geometry.
Fleet Turnaround, Not Queue Turnaround
We know an idle truck costs money daily — trusted by Toll Global Logistics and Skell Hire.
Repaired With Roadworthy in Mind
Structural work carried out to the tolerances a roadworthy inspection checks.
Common Truck Damage We Repair
Heavy vehicle collisions concentrate force differently to car accidents, and the repair approach has to follow the damage rather than a generic panel-beating template. These are the jobs that come through our Smithfield workshop most often.
Front-End and Bull Bar Impacts
The most common truck job we see. A front-end hit rarely stops at the bar — mounting brackets, chassis rail ends, radiator supports, headlight housings and mudguards are usually all involved. We assess the full load path rather than just replacing what’s visibly bent, because a bull bar refitted to a distorted mount will sit wrong and fail again at the next impact.
Jackknife and Trailer Contact Damage
When a trailer swings into the cab, damage runs along the rear cab wall, the sleeper, air lines and often the fifth wheel area. Jackknife damage is deceptive: the visible panel crush is usually the smaller problem compared with the twisting load that has gone through the chassis. We measure before we straighten.
Side Swipe and Kerb Strike
Common in tight depots and on narrow Sydney industrial streets. Steps, fuel tanks, guards, air tanks and side skirts take the hit, and on a kerb strike the axle and steering geometry frequently move even when nothing looks bent. This is where laser alignment earns its place — the tyre wear from an unresolved kerb strike costs more over a year than the repair.
Rear-End and Loading Dock Damage
Tail lifts, rear doors, barn door hinges, rear frames and lighting clusters. Loading dock damage is often repetitive rather than dramatic — the same corner getting caught week after week — and we can advise on protection options alongside the repair itself.
Rollover and Major Structural Damage
Cab structure, roof, A and B pillars, and chassis rails. These jobs need honest assessment before anything else: sometimes the right answer is that the repair economics do not stack up, and we will tell you that rather than start work on a vehicle that should be written off.
Hail, Storm and Fleet-Wide Cosmetic Damage
Sydney hail events can put a whole depot off the road at once. We can work through multiple units on a scheduled basis, prioritising the vehicles you need back first rather than treating them as a single queue.
Every Major Truck Brand on Australian Roads
We repair cab-over and bonneted trucks from every major manufacturer operating in Australia — Kenworth, Volvo, Scania, Isuzu, Hino, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, DAF, Freightliner, Mack, UD, Iveco and Fuso. Cab-over prime movers and conventional bonneted trucks take impact through completely different structures, and we assess each on its own construction rather than applying a single approach.
Older and imported models are not a problem. Where a panel or bracket is no longer available through the supply chain, our in-house sheet metal fabrication means we make the part rather than leaving your truck sitting on a backorder that may never arrive.
Built Around Fleet Downtime, Not Retail Queues
A truck off the road is not an inconvenience, it is lost revenue every single day. That shapes how we schedule: we quote with a realistic timeframe rather than an optimistic one, we tell you early if a part is going to hold the job up, and where a fleet has several units damaged we work with you on the order that suits your operation rather than the order they arrived.
For operators running regular volume with us, we can work on an ongoing account arrangement. Toll Global Logistics and Skell Hire have both used our Smithfield workshop on that basis. If you manage a fleet and want to talk about becoming an approved repairer arrangement, get in touch.
If a truck cannot be driven in safely, we arrange pick-up and delivery across Western Sydney and the greater Sydney region — including Fairfield, Wetherill Park, Prospect, Blacktown, Parramatta, Liverpool, Silverwater, Eastern Creek, Erskine Park and Moorebank.
Insurance Claims Handled Directly
We are an approved repairer for all major insurance companies for commercial and heavy vehicle claims. In practice that means we can liaise with your insurer directly to confirm scope and approval, so you are not caught relaying technical detail between an assessor and a workshop.
You are entitled to choose your own repairer in New South Wales. If your insurer has suggested a panel shop that mainly handles passenger vehicles, it is worth asking whether they have truck-rated chassis alignment equipment before the vehicle goes in — because the structural work is the part that is hardest to put right afterwards.
Other Heavy Vehicles We Repair
Trucks are one of three specialties under the same roof. If your fleet also runs passenger vehicles or plant equipment, we can handle those in the same workshop — often on the same account.
