Family Owned Since 1984
Four decades in the same Smithfield workshop, repairing the vehicles most panel shops turn away.
Same Premises, Same Family, Since 1984
Max Smash Repairs opened in Smithfield in 1984 and has operated from the same premises ever since. That is unusual in this trade. Panel shops change hands, get absorbed into networks, move to cheaper sites or quietly close. We are still here, still family owned, and still run by people whose name is attached to the work.
Over four decades the business made a deliberate choice that shaped everything since: rather than competing with every car panel shop in Western Sydney, we specialised in the vehicles those shops cannot physically accommodate. Trucks and prime movers. Buses and coaches. Cranes and heavy plant. The work that needs a bigger door, taller paint ovens, chassis equipment rated for heavy vehicle geometry, and a team that has seen the failure modes before.
It is a smaller market than passenger cars. It is also one where doing the job properly actually matters, because the consequences of a poor structural repair on a vehicle carrying forty tonnes or forty passengers are not cosmetic.
What Family Owned Actually Means Here
You Talk to the People Doing the Work
There is no call centre, no national booking system, and no account manager relaying messages to a workshop in another suburb. When you call about a vehicle, you speak to someone who can walk out and look at it.
We Tell You When It Is Not Worth Repairing
Sometimes the honest answer is that a repair does not stack up economically, or that a machine should not go back into load-bearing service. We would rather say that and lose the job than take the work and have you find out later.
Quotes Are Itemised, Not Lump Sums
Panel, structural and paint work quoted separately, so you can see what you are paying for and make a decision about scope rather than accepting or rejecting a single number.
Timeframes We Expect to Hit
We quote the timeframe we think is realistic, not the one most likely to win the job. If something changes — a backordered part, structural damage deeper than the photos showed — you hear about it when we find out.
Long Relationships, Not Transactions
Toll Global Logistics, Skell Hire and Komatsu Australia have not stayed with us because of a marketing campaign. Repeat fleet work is the entire business model, and it only works if the last job was done properly.
What We Have Built Here
Equipment specified for heavy vehicles first, rather than car equipment stretched to cope:
Laser chassis and axle alignment, including steering geometry resetting
Pressurised paint baking ovens sized for a prime mover cab or full-length coach
Authorised PPG refinisher — manufacturer’s lifetime paint warranty
PPG colour matching and mixing software for fleet-consistent finishes
In-house sheet metal fabrication and fibreglass repair
Infrared lamps for smart repairs and reduced drying times
